Slick Skillet Serenaders
Self proclaimed as a “discount Jazz and Dirty blues group providing good times and bad jokes,” the ‘Slick Skillet Serenaders’ was founded in 2011 by Jobydiah Hudson. This group’s style is highly inspired by the jug bands of the south in the 1930s. It is an adaptive lineup of musicians, consisting of anywhere from a 2 piece up to a full 12 piece band.
From their home base in New Orleans the group has toured and played in many U.S. states, and even journeyed across the pond in the fall of 2024 to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe fest. Slick Skillet has played multiple festivals like the French Quarter Festival and are currently gearing up to make their second appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival this coming May 1st.
I joined the band in 2015. Since that time we have busked regularly on Royal street every weekend during the day, and on Frenchman street during the night in addition to our club gigs. I have always loved this band for the amount of fun we genuinely have every time we play. And because the group has a slightly different lineup every year I’ve gotten to enjoy practicing, traveling, and performing with many other musicians. We've featured a wide range of instruments, but the feeling has always been the same: a good time.
We help to host the Swing Dance Night weekly at the Allways Lounge & Cabaret, with Slick Skillet being the featured band the first Sunday of every month. You can find our upcoming shows on the Calendar page of this website. We would love for you to come out and see us and to enjoy some fun, live music!
